Wells, ME – Walter “Buddy” Baluta formerly of Wells Maine, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 surrounded by his beloved family on February 16, 2022.

Walter was born in Lowell Massachusetts on August 2, 1943.  He retired in 1991 after years of dedicated service as a firefighter for the City of Lowell Massachusetts.  Driving the fire engine through the narrow city streets, was not an easy task, but something he did effortlessly.

Walter was predeceased by parents, two siblings, and a grandchild:  Walter and June Baluta, Ray Baluta and Terry Lefebvre, and Ashley Marie Baluta respectively.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years Jeanne Baluta of Wells ME; children Christine and Mike Sutton Ossipee, NH, Kathy and Greg Bean Pelham, NH, Cheryl Baluta Lowell, MA, Shannon Baluta and Bill Janocha, Hudson NH, Barbara and Ray Russler Fitchburg, MA, Jennifer and Tim Bordeleau North Conway, NH, Walter J Baluta Jr and Colleen Baluta (Stewart) Hudson, NH, Tammy and Mark Duffy Wakefield, NH, Tracy Clark and George Sousa Lowell, MA, Tina Willess and Adam Christie Deerfield, NH, and Thomas Willess Wakefield, NH; 21 grandchildren and 18 great grand Children; Niece Donna and Derek King Barnstead, NH, Nancy and George Brooks Billerica, MA.

Walter always made time for his family and had a special place in his heart for his “rugrats” AKA his grandchildren.  He enjoyed being outdoors, by a campfire, while listening to outlaw country music.  The friends he made during his years at Stadig Campground became extended family.  His favorite memories involved spending time at Mount Chocorua in New Hampshire and at the coastal beaches of Maine.  Hobbies included saltwater fishing, hunting, solving cross word puzzles, and a good game of cribbage.

Walter always had a smile or a funny joke to share.  In true Walter style he wished to “go out in flames”.  His family will be honoring his wishes with a celebration of life by a campfire to be held in the spring.

May many wonderful memories give you peace and comfort at this time. It’s okay to cry alone or with others but hopefully you’ll also find time to laugh alone when you recall a memorable event or when you share a story with others. Buddy touched many lives as a husband, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a coworker, a friend, or in my case, a cousin. May Buddy always have a special place in our heart. With sympathy, prayers and blessings.
