I only knew Roland Glenn through zoom meetings of the Veterans Breakfast Club of Pittsburgh and reading his book”The Hawk And The Dove”. I’m sorry that I never got to meet Roland and speak to him in person. I’m sure he’s now reconnecting with his loved ones as well as all the people with whom he served while he was in training in the US as well as overseas in Okinawa and Japan.

I just attended a morning meeting and learned of Roland’s death. He was such a wonderful, friendly, kind and humorous man. I feel privileged to have known him. Rest in peace, my friend.

I came to know Roland very well in the last dozen years of his life. He was a very bright guy , always with a positive attitude and he wore life like a loose garment, as they say. He studied anthropology on the GI bill after the war, taking classes from Margret Mead and Ruth Benedict at Columbia University. But he never worked as a professional anthropologist, because he went into the field of childhood education right after college. So when we were becoming friends he asked if he could come along to Africa on my next trip,, to help me because I am an anthropologist. That was one of our best times together. He made a side trip to a game park and managed to get chased by more wild animals, including an elephant , than I was able to see over a period of years living in two African countries.. My wife and I continue to miss Roland acutely.
