Robert Charles Hemberg, 90, died September 12, 2023 at The Edgewood Center in Portsmouth NH where he had resided since December 2022.   Born in Brewer, Maine March 8, 1933,  he was the son of Alta (Kelley) Hemberg and Sterling Hemberg.  After graduating from Bangor High School he enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served 8 years during the Korean War.  Following his military career he worked in the grocery industry in both Portland and Bangor, and as a machinist at Emple Knitting Mills in Brewer.  At age 56 he graduated  with highest honors from Eastern Maine Technical College, earning both a diploma in Foods Technology and an Associate Degree in Business Management.  In 2007 Bob moved to New Hampshire.  He spent 15 years in a lovely apartment in downtown Exeter where he enjoyed the company of many friends. He loved drives along the seacoast, serving the “best lobster rolls ever”, playing Bridge and Yahtzee, celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and with members of “The Fourth Floor Inmates Club”.  Throughout his life he was a great support to his family and was known for his kindness and generous spirit.   He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Ruth.   He is survived by his sister, Carol Pike and her husband, Dale of Newmarket, NH; nephew, Zack Pike and his wife, Rebecca of Greenland, NH and their children, Grace and Madelyn;  niece, Erin Wallace and her husband, Jacob of Vero Beach, FLA and their children, Liam and Naomi; and favorite dogs Chester and Bailey.

The family would like to thank The Edgewood Center and Beacon Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care throughout Bob’s journey.

There will be a graveside service in Bangor at a later date.
