Kittery Point, ME – John T. Tardif, 65, of Kittery Point, and Sabattus, ME, died on May 14, 2018.

He was born in Lewiston, Maine on September 28, 1952, the son of Sylvia (Riley) Tardif of Auburn and the late V. John Tardif, Jr.

Raised in Lewiston, he graduated from Lewiston High School with the Class of 1970. He went on to enlist and proudly served 4 years in the Army.

John worked in construction, managing hundreds of projects throughout New England in a career that spanned almost 50 years. In that time John made many friends and earned enormous respect from clients and colleagues for his dedication and broad range of knowledge.

Second to his passion for his work, John loved eating and stopping in for a DQ Ice Cream. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, the ‘news’, and hiking with his Scotties. He was very industrious and enjoyed many home and car projects, the most ambitious of which was the log cabin he built on Sabattus Lake. He will be remembered as a kind hearted and gentle man who never complained. He was hard working and always there to lend a helping hand. He had sparkling blue eyes and he was always smiling.  He was a good-natured man who always remembered your name.  John enjoyed a positive outlook and a zest for life that was shortened too soon by cancer.

In addition to his mother, family members include his wife, Deborah Tardif of Sabattus, his incredible daughters of whom he was extremely proud, Destiny McClure and Kylie Rossignol, Destiny’s husband, Cory of Bethel, ME, Kylie’s significant other Matt Morin of Sabattus, Lynn Davis of Sabattus; sister, Anna Mae Crowley and husband Anthony of Lewiston; brother, Tee Timothy Tardif and significant other Stefine Dyer Christie of Yarmouth; his wonderful grandchildren, Max, Sylvia, Griffin, Kaleb, Emmakate, Ayla, Kylie, Mason, Haley and Colby, and longtime companion Denise Payne of Kittery Point.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Community Baptist Church, 9 Main Street, Sabattus, Maine 04280. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

John was a real life John Wayne, strong, brave and handsome. He was a man you could count on to come to your rescue. He was honest, loyal and true. He would be there for you and he could fix anything. He had a remarkable memory and remembered the name of almost everyone he ever met. He loved “talking shop” with the guys and reminiscing with former colleagues over past jobs, pranks and keeping track of buddies.
Some of the Things John loved; working in construction, Roy’s cheeseburgers, tools and shopping at Home Depot, Maine Maple Sunday, watching horse pulling and eating fair food at the Fryeburg and Deerfield Fairs, fishing for Bass and Mackerel, Gummie Bears, watching the news, 60s and 70s Rock and Roll music, family get togethers, hiking and camping in Maine and on the Kancamagus Highway, having apple or cranberry sauce with anything, bargain hunting on Ebay, Craig’s List and in “Uncle Henry’s”, pork and beans from Grant’s Bakery, 4th of July Fireworks, shopping at Market Basket and Mardins, DQ Ice Cream, boating, his dogs, Saltines, Tomato Juice and Tomato Soup, getting notes in his lunch box, fixing cars, boats, engines, trailers and anything mechanical, reading The Maine Sunday Telegram, eating boardwalk fries, pizza and fried dough at OOB and Hampton Beach, going to plays, sitting on the deck watching the hummingbirds, eating Blueberry, Pumpkin and Apple Pies, watching Westerns and old movies on TNT, taking a nap after a good meal, and watching his daughters become the confident, intelligent, self-assured women that he admired more than anything.
I can only think of two things John didn’t like; winter and wasting money.
John was super patient, calm, kind, sentimental, generous, eternally optimistic, positive, agreeable, appreciative, sensitive, loyal, and loving. I’ll always remember his sparkling blue eyes and his ear to ear grin.
I think we can all agree that our life was better for having him in it.
As his hero John Wayne said of himself and John Tommy Tardif would himself simply sum it up “I’m the stuff men are made of”.

Life is an Echo
What you send out, comes back
What you sow, you reap
What you give, you get
What you see in others, exists in you
Remember life is an Echo
It always gets back to you.

Above all else – a good man in every sense of the word. Could not tolerate wasting time or money, and inspired so many people in his life to not tolerate pretenders. John is missed already.
