Madbury, NH- Jean R Talbot,  Born May 27, 1929, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024, at the age of 94, in Carraige Hill Assisted Living Facility, Madbury, NH

He was a US Air Force Veteran of 22 years. He specialized as an aircraft propeller Technician for the C-130 Lockheed Hercules, which is still in use today.  His long career brought him all over the country; California, Delaware, Japan, Texas, New Jersey, Puerto Rico.

Jean Roch Florent Talbot, (he went by “Flo” in the French-Canadian community), was born in Berlin, NH in 1929, First born to Aime and Cleophe` (Lapointe) Talbot, a brother Neil, and a sister Madeleine.

The Talbots owned a dairy farm in Jefferson NH. At age 14, Jean went to High School at the Oblate Seminary in Bucksport Maine. He would come home summers and help the family with the farm chores of haying, baling, and learned to drive the tractor at age 8. He finished seminary school, but did not enter the priesthood, however he always said he appreciated the excellent education he received. Since it was not an accredited school, he was required to complete a 5th year at the local public school in Lancaster NH, in order to receive his high school diploma.

He and his brother Neil both bought Indian motorcycles and enjoyed the life of single young men in their early twenties. Jean worked for an auto parts store in Berlin NH running parts for a time. It was during that period that he met “his beautiful redhead” Pauline. He and his brother Neil both joined the Air Force together in 1952 and they both shipped out to Travis AFB, California as their first assignment. After basic training, he and Pauline married, and they set off to California on their first Air Force assignment. His brother and his wife also set off to California.

After a 22-year career in the Air Force, he finally retired and the family returned to Hampton, New Hampshire, their home state. He began his civilian career as an appliance technician for Montgomery Ward for another 20 year career, repairing appliances in homes throughout Maine and New Hampshire. It was while at “Monkey Wards” that he gave himself the nickname “JRT o.c.” Which stood for Jean R Talbot, of course! We even had a hat made for him with JRT o.c.

He married Pauline (Charest) from Berlin NH, daughter of Arthur and Adele (Arsenault), and they shared a beautiful marriage of 43 years. Sadly, Pauline passed away after battling cancer in 1995. Jean never re-married because he said he would “always love his Pauline”. Their house in Middleton NH was sold and he traveled around in a 35′ motor home and lived in Florida and Texas.

He leaves behind his children, Denise (Phil) Corriveau, 6 Grandchildren, and 3 Great Grandchildren, and Michael (Wendy) Talbot, & their four children.

Other than his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Neil.

He was known by family and friends as the guy with the great sense of humor, great one-liners, nicknames for everyone, and a genuine heart to help his family. He had such a mechanical gift for anything with engines & had a clever mind for inventing.

He truly loved Life and held on to the very end, even after losing his independence from a fall which resulted in a TBI in 2019. He enjoyed listening to music, photography, riding his bicycle, reading, and ballroom dancing which he learned in Texas.

His heart was always full of his fond memories of the Air Force of which he was very proud to serve and loved being A PROP MAN!

Condolence from Anita Bunting on April 4th, 2024 6:39 pm

I couldn’t believe it when Joan called me on March 27 to wish me a happy birthday, then said she’d give me the sad news later. I pressed her to not make me wait, but never expected to hear just how bad it was.
My husband and I worked with Jean-O for years and then maintained our friendship with Jean-o through gatherings of ex-employees summers and winters.
I didn’t know Denise very well, but worked with Michael for a few years. My condolences to Jean’s family, he was a wonderful man and everyone loved him. I’ll never forget him.
