Herbert, died on June 28, 2022 just shy of completing his ninth decade. He had many talents and was always ready for a challenge.

Herbert was born on October 4, 1932, to Kurt and Lillian Schindler in Lawrence MA. As a boy, he worked on his parents farm in So. Berwick Maine. He was a graduate of Berwick Academy where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He is known by the nickname Acer in the So. Berwick area for being the Ace of the pitching staff. As the story goes he had a curveball that broke 2 feet. He also loved to sing and was in the church choir.

Immediately after graduating he enlisted in the Navy to help his country fight the Korean War. He served on a destroyer as a quartermaster. He served 4 years until the war was over and then served in the reserves for a few years. After the war he decided farming wasn’t for him and got into the building trades where he started a career in brick laying becoming a mason.

On August 20, 1955 he got married to Claire Dixon in Dover N.H. and together they had four children – two boys and two girls. He loved to cook and have big family dinners on Sunday afternoons and always had a weekly pizza night. You could always find him at the grill cooking at family events. He was the commander of the VFW in Sanford Maine for many years helping out veterans. His love for singing lead him to start a Karaoke business and did many gigs and family parties. He would volunteer to sing at nursing homes during the holidays. He loved playing and watching all sports, especially the Red Sox and Patriots.

Herbert is survived by his four children: Marilyn Labrie of Rutland MA (formerly of Dover NH), Mark Schindler of Berwick ME, Brian Schindler of FL, and Lori Schindler of Rochester NH.

Herbert is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and a nephew.

In death, he follows his brother Bernard Schindler.

A private family service is being planned. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Herbert’s name to your favorite local animal shelter.
