Newmarket, NH – Hector Paul Hamel, 60 of Newmarket, died Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover.
He was born on July 16, 1958 in Exeter, the son of the late Robert W. and Lina M. (Grimard) Hamel.
Hector graduated from Exeter High School with the Class of 1976 and went on to work for the Exeter fire department for 12 years until injuring his knee in a skiing accident. He then moved to Newmarket and pursued a career in construction and home renovations for 18 years, before taking a job as a chauffeur for Regal Limousine for the past year. Hector was a lifelong active member for the Sons of the American Legion Post 67 in Newmarket.
Hector is survived by his husband William Wildes of Newmarket, with whom he has shared a home with for 22 years; two brothers, Lucien Hamel of Henderson, NC and Gerry Hamel and his wife Paula of Exeter; sister, Brenda Kleczek of Farmington and two nephews, Jim Brousseau of Farmington and Joshua Hamel of Exeter.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother in law, Stephen Kleczek.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 15, 2019 in the Exeter Cemetery, 49 Linden Street, Exeter, NH 03833. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Newmarket American Legion hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hector’s name to the Hyder Family Hospice House, 285 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.

Hector, although I didn’t get to know you more in school, the last few years on FB have been great,. I loved the jokes you would post and was so glad to hear about your wedding and everything. I was heartbroken when you told us you were sick. I have been praying for you and your husband. Bill, I don’t know you but my thoughts are with you. from the picture of I saw of you and Hector you looked so happy… I hope you can find some peace.. kathie
Hector was my high school classmate and we played some epic card games (Whist and Spades) in study hall and at lunch. After school we also played some notorious “friendly” football games, and most of the time (not always) nobody got hurt. Hector always made an extra effort to be there and have fun. When I went off to the Marines after high school and came home on leave, Hector was ready to have a good time in the short time I could be at home. His humor was legendary (if not a little “off color”) and everyone enjoyed his jokes. I am so sorry to hear of his passing as I know we will all miss him. To his family and friends, God bless and take care in this time of grief.

Although we have been in and out of touch over the years, he was always a great friend and my Wife always said He gave the best hugs!

My Condolences to the family of Hector Hamel, especially to his husband of 22 years, William Wildes. I met Hector in 2000 when myself and my partner Dave purchased a fixer upper in North Hampton, NH. He worked diligently to make our home something to be proud of. Hector and Rob spent many months making our home an impeccable home to live in and enjoy. He took pride in all his work, and he will always be in my prayers. Take care my friend. RIP!
