An excellent human being, friend and as Joel said, mentor. I could not thank him enough for what he taught me and believed in me to take on a task when I did not believe in myself to try. He will always be missed. My heart felt thoughts go out to all his family.

We remember Geoff fondly. We regularly saw him in our neighborhood walking Sophie when we were walking with our own dog and we had small conversations often. He was a ,thoughtful, gentle man and we will miss him. Our heart felt sympathy to Karen and all of his family.

Condolence from Karl Fronk on April 18th, 2018 4:22 pm

I’m not sure what my life would be like if Geof had not hired me back in 1995. He was a kind and encouraging mentor who allowed me to experiment and learn, providing just enough direction to help solve the puzzle. When a problem was solved to his satisfaction, he was full of praise and encouragement – I couldn’t have asked for a better boss. For a man who was relatively large in stature, he could have intimidated people if he wanted to, but that was not Geof. He helped to shape my life in a positive way and he will be missed. My condolences to his friends and family.

Condolence from Jackie and Ollie on April 18th, 2018 4:26 pm

Geoff was such a lovely person and truly a friend to so many different people. He always cared to ask how school was going or how many more weeks until summer. Geoff often shared about different things he had been reading or studying, and he was such a wealth of knowledge in an enormous variety of ways. It is hard to imagine a day at the Wentworth without seeing Geoff and Sophie. We will both so dearly miss his presence at the marina.Thoughts and prayers to Karen and family.

Condolence from Hong Mao on April 18th, 2018 6:24 pm

Geof was my first boss in industry. He extended me a job offer when I was a Ph. D student at UCF back in 2003. Geof was my committee member for Ph. D program. He was a kind, thoughtful, knowledgeable and encouraging mentor. He always gave me inspiration and left enough room for me to explore further. He will be missed in the rest of my life. My condolences to all of his family and friends.

Condolence from Mark and Amy McVeigh on April 18th, 2018 8:33 pm

There are 100 wonderful things we could say about Geof. We will remember the history lessons most whether it was local history, civil war history or of course Geof’s favorite topic, Abe Lincoln. His passion for the lessons provided through history was remarkably and his story telling was truly a gift.

Geof was rarely rebellious. Karen certainly kept him on a short “culinary” leash when in came to his diet, preparing only healthy foods. On the rare occasions when Karen was out of town, we would invite Geof out to dinner. We would find him in the driveway with a smirk on his face eagerly awaiting our arrival to go out for a wedge salad, hamburger and fries. Also when given the task to make a holiday desert he would gleefully “engineer” a mud pie!

For this, and 100 other reasons, we will miss him.

Love – Mark and Amy McVeigh

We first met Geoff on the golf course, not his favorite place! However we discovered he was a very special person, even if he was not particularly fond of golfing! We are heartsick to lose him . We loved being in his company. He was so interesting , thoughtful, and intuitive. He just knew how to connect with others. An evening with Karen and Geoff was always a special night. We will keep him close in our hearts, and see his smile, gentle laugh, and good nature in our memory forever. ❤️

Condolence from Tim Sullivan on April 19th, 2018 12:20 am

Geof hired me for my first ‘real’ power electronics job back in 2000 and it was always fun to work with him. In a strange coincidence after leaving Astec a few years later Geof and I worked together again on the same team within TI for a while. I remember some impressive work he did on a bi-directional amplifier to examine converter output impedance – something I think he just built in his spare time. I also remember him commuting in his boxster even in terrible snow storms sometimes! ….and then there were the times he would bring or order in ice cream for everyone – I never remember it requiring any particular occasion either. 🙂 Always fun to work with and a kind man. Glad to have known him.

Condolence from Eddie Gallacher on April 19th, 2018 2:55 am

Geof was a valued colleague who had a gentle manner and a sharp mind. Though it has been a few years since we last met, I have fond memories of the many years we worked together. My sincere condolences to Karen and Geof’s friends and family.

Condolence from Ed on April 19th, 2018 11:53 am

It was awhile back that I had to work with Geof. And I only had good memories about it. And he was never the person who.would be forcefull or use intimidation. Even if he was general manager
And being a history buff he was. He would share stories about old Ironsides on few times we would meet.

My condolences to his love ones

Condolence from Karen on April 19th, 2018 3:45 pm

Geof – My Love. I’m so very fortunate to have spent these years with you. Your loving companionship, gentle soul, and sharp mind filled our world. I will love you always and cherish our many memories.

You always said you had or go before our pup Sophie since the pain of losing her would be too much for you. She misses her Daddy and knows her life has forever changed, as has mine.

I Love You Always.
Karen

Condolence from Jim Molloy on April 19th, 2018 4:08 pm

I had the pleasure of working with Geof for several years at Astec/Emeson as well as Semiconductor Circuits. We did find some time to fit in a few fun rounds of golf at Wentworth between sales calls. A true gentleman that will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Condolence from Caroline Pluta on April 19th, 2018 5:41 pm

Uncle Geof,
I’ll always remember you as a kind and gentle soul who was always quick to crack a joke. I’ll cherish memories of history lessons and current event discussions, your “pink stuff” and your famous mud pie, you and Sophie reading books in your chair, and playing with your radios in the basement. It won’t be the same without you. I’ll always be the “Alice” to your “Geoffy Pie.” You are greatly missed.
Love,
Caroline

Condolence from Conor Quinn on April 19th, 2018 9:17 pm

I had the good fortune to work with Geof for a few years. He was indeed a gentleman and a mentor, as mentioned in many of the comments above. Traveling with Geof was also an opportunity to learn about civil war and military history. I probablylearned more from Geof than any one else on that topic.
My sincere condolences to his family.

Condolence from Darcy Horgan on April 21st, 2018 10:51 am

Geof’s passing leaves an empty seat at the New Castle Planning Board table, and it will be tough to fill that hole. We could count on Geof always arriving prepared and willing to share his insights. He was especially helpful in tackling special assignments that needed research and brainpower. He will be missed terribly. I, in particular, will miss my “go-to” guy. If we had an intricate plan to analyze, I knew I could count on Geof’s trained engineering mind to see right thru to the crux of what was important. I will miss his expertise and wise counsel. And like all the other neighbors, I will especially miss seeing his large presence with his small dog.

My sincere condolences to Karen and all those who loved him.

Darcy

Condolence from Kevin McVeigh on April 21st, 2018 6:10 pm

The fun started with oatmeal. Yup, we argued over how exactly to make oatmeal the RIGHT way. I’m reading the step-by-step cooking instructions at the same time Geof is calmly discussing optimal water temperature, the use of salt as a catalyst, duration of cook time vs cool-down time, how often to stir etc. And that’s when I knew I was completely outmatched in every way. Geof’s intellect, dry wit, patient and calm demeanor, and overall goodness were core characteristics that made him a joy to be near. In addition, and maybe most of all, I loved the smile that he was able to bring to my sister’s face. I will miss you, Geof. Rest in peace.

Love,

Kevin McVeigh

Condolence from Paul Fortin on April 22nd, 2018 9:46 am

I had the pleasure of working with Geof at SCI. Always enjoyed our morning coffee chats in Cathy’s office. He was a true gentleman, had a great sense of humor, extremely intelligent with an uncanny knowledge on the history of the Civil War.
My condolences to all for the loss of this extrodinary man.

Condolence from Don Drinkwater on April 23rd, 2018 9:06 am

Sorry for your loss. I crossed paths with Geof during my time with Digital. He was always a helpful and positive person.

Condolence from Carly on April 23rd, 2018 12:24 pm

Uncle Geof,

Your calming demeanor, dry wit, and virtually endless knowledge are just a few of the many, many things that will be missed. Thank you for the years of memories – from being patient enough to allow us kids to play with your cool computers and workout equipment in the basement, to the delicious mud pie and pink stuff on the holidays. Thank you for loving Aunt Karen with all your heart…we will take it from here.

Love Always,
Carly

There are so many wonderful memories about Geof and so much that I will miss about him…

Thank you Geof for the years of coming to our home in RI for Thanksgiving, Easter and years of endless birthday parties, graduations, and most any celebration for my children. You shared in all our special moments with warmth, kindness and genuine love. Thank you for opening your home to us as a vacation spot even though it meant you would have little time for peace and quiet. Thank you for all the amazing projects you and Matt created and the excitement and pride you both shared with the end result. Thank you for the dinner outings, history lessons and current event discussions; of which I was the one that learned the most from our talks. Thank you for the ongoing projects you so willingly took on at our parent’s house every season so that they could relax and enjoy their home. Most importantly, thank you for loving my sister. You made her very happy and shared many special years together. That is what I am most grateful for.

I will miss you Geof. You will always be in our hearts and your legacy is with all those that you have touched. The best part of life is made up of the small moments. I am honored to have shared in those moments with you and being a part of your journey.

Love,
Cindy

Condolence from John Sofio on April 26th, 2018 2:32 pm

My sincerest condolences to Geoff’s family and friends. For many years back in Digital’s heyday we were coworkers and good work friends. He was an excellent engineer and technical manager and a great work companion. On one felicitous work opportunity, we traveled together in Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland [because of Geoff’s dad’s wartime experience], to France/Cannes for a DEC sales meeting. I don’t need to tell you what a great guy he was—his friendship and our mutual respect mean a lot to me.

Condolence from Dennis Neil Kleinman on April 26th, 2018 8:43 pm

My condolences to Caren and to Geoff’s family and friends. As a longtime neighbor, I got to know him gradually, and it was really only over the last few years that I began to realize that behind the quiet-verging-on-stoic exterior was a lively wit and a deep love of others. I regret that our friendship blossomed as late as it did, but I am glad to have seen at least some of what made him so special to so many.

Condolence from Matt on April 29th, 2018 3:02 pm

I had the privilege of spending time with Aunt Karen and Uncle Geof a few times in my life. During those visits, Uncle Geof passionately shared his knowledge about subjects from electrical engineering to history, and everything in between.

Uncle Geof had an enormous amount of knowledge about the topics he specialized in, but he also possessed an equally enormous amount of general knowledge. He could provide insight into nearly any topic, or he could point out something amazing about the things we interact with daily. He truly inspired in me this same sense of wonder and fascination. Thank you Uncle Geof for sharing your time and knowledge with me.

What stuck with me even more from these visits though, was Aunt Karen and Uncle Geof’s love of each others company. I could sense more than anything Uncle Geof’s genuine happiness when he was around Aunt Karen, and Aunt Karen’s genuine happiness when she was around Uncle Geof, and that is a truly special bond.

Uncle Geof, you are missed but you live on in our hearts and memories.

Matt

Condolence from David Pluta on May 20th, 2018 5:05 pm

As I sit here today and reflect that it is more than a month since Geoff’s passing, it is Pentecost. Today we remember the spirit coming like the wind, appearing like hovering tongues of fire , to comfort, guide, and strengthen those who were mourning the loss of a beloved friend. And I think of Geof’s calm demeanor, and matter-of-fact way of sharing his wealth of knowledge, humbly and without drawing attention to himself. That gentleness and strength seem to linger with his memory. And I believe Geof is still strong and gentle, unbound by our dimensions and limitations… we will miss you Geof, but are comforted and strengthened by your memory. Karen, we are with you in your sorrow and I pray that Geoff will linger and give you strength as time passes.

Love and peace,

David

Condolence from Judy Pluta on June 8th, 2018 12:02 pm

Geof, there are so many memories of you that I cherish. Yes, you taught us all everything there is to know about everything you know – which is a LOT. I now know about the tides, the presidents , history, New Hampshire and all the backroom stories about the founding of our country.
I do have a favorite though. I fondly remember each year on the 4th of July weekend our family would move into your home to enjoy holiday festivities on the New Hampshire shore. As we were dragging in our luggage and setting up air mattresses in your office, I would tease you, ” Geof, it’s your favorite weekend of the year!!! The invasion of family !!” We then proceeded to eat your food, walk sand into your living room and make a lot of noise for three or four days. Your hospitality was unwavering. You would greet us with that big silent smile. I did not know then or expect that you would be the first to leave us. So you see, now you go before us again – the one to pave the way, so that when it is our time, you will be the one to greet us in the next life and offer hospitality with your big loving silent smile.
Until we meet again brother-in-law, rest in peace. Judy

Condolence from Issa Batarseh on November 24th, 2023 9:19 am

I was deeply saddened recently to learn about the passing of Jeff. The news brought back memories of the time we collaborated on a joint research project at the University of Central Florida from 2003 to 2006. Reflecting on those years, I can only express my gratitude for having had the privilege to work alongside such an exceptional individual.
Jeff was more than a research collaborator colleague; he embodied the qualities of a true gentleman and leader. Throughout our collaborative efforts to advance the field of power conditioning circuits for ASPEC Power America, he consistently treated everyone with the utmost respect and understanding. His leadership style fostered an environment of collaboration and shared vision, making the three-year endeavor not only productive but also personally enriching.
Our commitment to the project yielded remarkable innovative results, that made him proud to be part of pushing the boundaries of power conditioning circuits. However, beyond the technical achievements, the most rewarding aspect of our joint activities was the opportunity to know and work with Jeff. His wisdom, integrity, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impression on all those fortunate enough to collaborate with him.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May God bless his soul,
Issa Batarseh
