Amesbury, MA – Eunice Louise Hardy, 97, of Amesbury, died peacefully, with her daughter by her side on September 28, 2023, at the assisted living facility where she had been a resident for over two years.

She was born on April 29, 1926, in Brooklin, Maine, the daughter of the late Ronald and Nellie Anderson Beede Grey. She attended Brooklin High School where she enjoyed participating in speaking contests, playing in the band, and playing basketball and softball. She liked to roller skate and she and her friends would walk the several miles to the rink. It was there that she tripped up a Navy guy to get his attention. Eunice graduated from Brooklin High School in 1944. After World War II, Eunice married Stanley Hardy on March 10, 1946. Then they moved to Merrimac, MA.

Eunice worked at AT&T, the First National grocery store in Merrimac, The Grille diner in Merrimac, and the Carriage House Restaurant in Merrimac. She was active in the Pilgrim Congregational Church. She served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and a troop leader for Girl Scouts. She belonged to the Merrimac Couples League and Singles League in Bowling. She and Stanley enjoyed 35 years of square dancing with the Olde Town Squares in Newburyport. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, sewing, and braiding rugs.

In 1999 Eunice and Stan moved from Merrimac to Brooklin, Maine to live in the Grey family home for about 17 years. Then in November of 2016, they moved back to Merrimac to be closer to the family. After Stanley passed away, Eunice moved to Elizabeth Calsey House in Amesbury.

Eunice was pre-deceased by Stanley, her husband of 74 years, in November 2020. She was also pre-deceased by her three brothers, Basil, Royce and Hollis. Her son Tom passed away in August of 2016.

She is survived by her daughter Constance and son-in-law John Gordon of West Newbury, her son Gary and wife Marcia of Merrimac, and a daughter-in-law Jeannine Hardy of Connecticut; six grandchildren-Kelly Burke, Daren and Jeffrey Gordon, Eric and Scott Hardy, and Rhyan Kwiatek; eight great grandchildren – Megan Mathers, Ally Burke, Jordan Hardy, Anna, William and Thomas Gordon, Elizabeth and Henry Kwiatek; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful people at Elizabeth Calsey House for providing a safe, comfortable, and loving environment for our mother during these past two years. We also want to thank Tufts Medicine Care at Home Hospice for being there for her and the family during these last two months. Donations in memory of Eunice Hardy may be made to: Elizabeth Calsey House, 15 Elizabeth St. Amesbury, MA 01913 or to Tufts Medicine Care at Home Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Suite 425, Lawrence, MA 01843. Condolence from Linda call on October 13th, 2023 6:43 pm

Dear Marcia and Gary when I was 18 I worked in Ornsteen shoe in Haverhill with your mom. It was back in 1968. I was just a kid and she was so good to me. I lost touch with her and your dad when I got married. You have all my sympathy. When I knew her I was Linda Dunn but my name is Linda Call now.
