Posted By Direct Cremation of the Seacoast On December 6, 2021 @ 4:14 pm In | 20 Comments

Newmarket, NH – Douglas Alan Bevins, 57, of Newmarket, NH, peacefully headed home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 3, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Boston, MA, to John (Jack) W. Bevins and Phyllis E. Bevins, Doug was raised by Jack Bevins and Jacqueline (Jackie) G. Bevins in Ogunquit, Maine. Doug graduated from Wells High School in 1982, continued his education at St. Anselm College, and completed his professional studies at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. After practicing dentistry for 14 years, Doug pursued a second career in the insurance industry with Core Benefits Group, Inc.

In 1995, Doug married the love of his life, Theresa Bevins, and together they raised two wonderful and vibrant daughters, Morgan and Adrienne. An avid and highly energetic fan of the Red Sox and Patriots, Doug loved sharing with family and friends the majesty of Fenway Park and reveled in watching the Patriots at Gillette Stadium. However, his true passion was being the loudest cheerleader on the sidelines at Morgan and Adrienne’s sporting events. Doug was the number one supporter of their dreams. Doug also loved playing the bass guitar, boating, running, tinkering in the garage, and crashing his nephews’ disc golf games. He truly enjoyed any activity that brought the family together in laughter. His spirit, faithful life, wonderful sense of humor, contagious smile, and caring heart were all captured in a warm Doug Bevins hug.

Doug’s extraordinary ability to be in the moment, slow down the hands of time, wholeheartedly welcome others into his life, and embrace his family and friends with tremendous joy and love are his legacy. Doug worked hard to become the best version of himself. We will never forget his courage and kindness. Through the peaks and valleys, he walked alongside Jesus, and there is no doubt Jesus was there to help Doug take his final steps… “Well done my good and faithful servant” (Matt. 25:21). Now we can take comfort in knowing that Doug is cheering us on in the glorious presence of his Lord and Savior.

Doug is preceded in death by his father, Jack Bevins, and his birth mother, Phyllis Bevins. He is survived by his mother, Jackie Bevins, and his brother, Peter Bevins, both of Ogunquit, ME, as well as his Uncle David and Aunt Annette Williams, his Uncle Michael Gamarlo and Aunt Jennifer Keene, and his extended family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Connect Community Church, located on 200 Chase Drive, Portsmouth, NH. A reception will follow the service, at 1:00 p.m., at Jonathan’s, 92 Bourne Lane, Ogunquit, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rise Home for Women and Children, ℅ Connect Community Church, 200 Chase Drive, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

It’s hard to imagine that Doug is gone. I remember that he was always full of life, laughter and mischief. We bumped into each other once in Peabody, MA when I hadn’t seen him for 20 years and we picked up right where we had left off in school, cracking each other up.
What a shocking loss for his family. My deepest condolences.

Doug was such a great guy to work with, he took me under his wing at Core Benefits and was my Manager and I am forever grateful for all he did, he made it fun to come to work. I had known him from Bankers Life and was thrilled when I found him at Core. He will always hold a warm place in my heart and I want his family to know what an honor it was to know him and work with him.

I learned just last night about Doug, and it really hit hard. My head filled with images of our shared times together in the middle of the 1980s, and also filled with disbelief. How can this be? I was planning to reach out to him to see about getting together in NH this coming summer after so many years of not seeing each other. But life is so short and time flies…

Doug was the first friend I made at Saint Anselm College. We studied together, worked together over two summers (summer of ’84 at Rockingham Park, summer of ’85 at Jackie’s and Jackie’s Too), went to each other’s weddings, and somehow fell out of touch as the years went on and our careers and families became paramount in our lives.

I remember Doug living with me and my family as we each did a summer session in genetics before heading off to Ogunquit in the summer of ’85. He had an evening job as a security guard at one of our public parks in Manchester NH. Each night before he left for work in his uniform, he would have dinner with my family and always give my mom a kiss on the cheek before he left. Needless to say, he was the friend from college of whom she most approved.

In short, I loved Doug – he was my friend.

To Theresa, Morgan, Adrienne, Jackie, and Peter my heart goes out to each of you, and may God bless you all.

Ever, jules

What can I say about Doogie. We had so many great times together whether it was family vacations in St. John or skiing at Sugarloaf. Doug and I went to several Super Bowls together and many Pats games….we always had a great time.

However, one of my most memorable times with Doug was coming home to his and Theresa’s house when they lived in Portsmouth. We were walking around the front of the house and it was the holidays and we could see Theresa decorating inside. Doug just paused, looked at Theresa being busy and said, “isn’t she amazing. I just love her to pieces. “ I’ll never forget that.

To all of Doug’s family and especially to Theresa, Morgan and Adrienne. I am so sad for your loss. I am also sad for all of us whom knew Doug over all these years.

I’ll miss you Doogie!!

To the family of Doug Bevin’s, I wish to echo some of the same thoughts that Lynn Hapke shared with the family. I met Doug when I first joined core benefits group and he was my manager for a time as well. I remember fondly the times that he would call me just to check on me to see how I was doing and if I needed any help. He always spoke about the love of family and the thrill of being able to see his girls play sports. I was shocked and saddened to learn of his passing. I offer condolences and my prayers for all who loved Doug. Sincerely, Tom Kinney

Condolence from Marisa Smith Kraus on January 7th, 2022 4:59 pm

To the wife and daughters of Doug Bevins, I just called to talk to Doug ( he was my insurance agent) and I called with trepidation because I knew he was fighting cancer. I am so shocked and saddened to learn of his passing. You may remember that Doug brought all of you ( I believe you were all there) to see my play MAD LOVE at Northern Stage in White River Junction back in 2015. I was so incredibly touched that he would make the trip and bring his family, so touched. We barely knew each other then but I had been so happy to find him because he was tremendously helpful to me. I often told him that I could never navigate the insane maze that is our health insurance world without him. When I found out about his illness I was impressed by how he was handling the challenge; with good spirits, hope and a strong faith in God. I truly expected him to beat the illness with his amazing attitude. Clearly he was a fantastic husband and father and I’m sure you miss him terribly. I know his memory is a blessing and I’m sure that the love he had for you will last your lifetimes. My deepest sympathies. It’s obvious that he was a very special man and that the world was truly better because he was here. With love, my condolences, Marisa Smith Kraus
